Friday 27 August 2021 was the 500th anniversary of Franco-Flemisch composer Josquin des Prez’ death. To commemorate this event the Alamire Foundation created a series of twelve documentary-concerts especially for Laus Polyphoniae, the unique festival of polyphony organized by AMUZ Flanders Festival Antwerp that focused on Josquin in 2021. These films included new recordings of the masses that were with certitude written by Josquin des Prez himself.
These productions are the result of a unique collaboration between renowned partners such as the Royal Library of Belgium, AMUZ and KU Leuven, fifteen leading musicologists from leading universities around the world, and an international cast of performers: Blue Heron (US), Cappella Mariana (CZ), Cappella Pratensis (NL), Huelgas Ensemble (BE), Stile Antico (UK), Vocal Ensemble Cappella (JP) and Vox Luminis (BE). All these ensembles share a profound love of Franco-Flemish polyphony. In twelve episodes and a total of ten hours of documentary films, each of them has offered an interesting perspective on Josquin’s masses.
